This afternoon I've located 4 beautiful books and a box of old prints, mainly of places (although a few of people) around Ashton under Lyne, Dukinfield, Stalybridge, Hyde, Haughton and Denton, in my parents loft. They seem to be from the mid 1800's to early 1900's, showing shops, factories etc 'as they were then'. If anyone has any ancestors in any of these areas and would like a photocopy of any of the prints, let me know which area you are interested in. Their name would be good too cos some of the shots in the books name the people in the photos! Lou

Hello Lou My husbands mother and family came from Ashton U Lyne and Dukinfield, her maiden name was Sharratt, her mothers was Hampton and step-mothers maiden name was Batty, also the name Swain. Ryecroft St. Welbeck St. and Portland St are names that come to mind. My M-I-L was born 1905 and was caught up in the big gas explosion that occured about 1915??, she was either going or returning home from school at the time. Frances

Kevin There's some brilliant shots of Penny Meadow in the late 1800's. Barely recognisable to how it is now. And the Albion School on Penny Meadow which was the only one from 1860 to 1904 in that area so ALL the kids went there! Lou

Hi Lou, I am trying to find any more info on a Ralph and Elizabeth Clough who were marr. Jan 21 1821 in Lancashire and had 2 children that I know of. 1. Ralph b. 1829 who married a Jane Hulley Jan.16 1848 at Manchester Cathedral. Before arriving in Australia in 1864 they had 4 children. Daniel (b. 1849), Mary Ann (b. 1952), Elizabeth A. (b. 1861) and James Henry (b. 1863). I've been in contact with the Hulley side and they cant give me much more than I already have. 2. Ann whose birth is unknown but married a John Mellor Matley 19 Nov 1843 at Ashton under Lyne. I have been in contact with descendants of one their daughters but again it doesn't leave me any the wiser as to the Clough Ancestors. Hope you can help. Cheers and thanks in advance, Graeme

Lou, I don't like to ask as I live in Australia, but I'm wondering if you have any pictures of Bombay Street, Ashton under Lyne. My Ibbotson branch lived there in 1881. I would love to see any photos of the area. Let me know if you are willing to send them if I pay the postage. Susan

Hi Hilary Yep, got some shots of Saddleworth and Uppermill including ones of the station. I actually go up there quite regularly, both places are absolutely divine. Need to win the lotto to LIVE there, mind you, but they have some wicked craft shops and a lot of the original mills are still standing but have been converted into either apartments or craft centres. Ok, I'm rambling now......I can always take my camera the next time I go up if there's anything in particular you would like! Lou

After 10 years of searching I found out I am related by marriage to the Saville family of Ashton under Lyne - Amelia Saville born 1821 was the first name I found, but couldn't work out how she fitted into my family, until I found that her sister Hannah married the brother of my great great grandmother. The Savilles have an impressive family history at www(.)familysearch(.)org If there are any pictures of the Savilles I would be very interestested to see them. Thanks, Maggie P.S. In about 1833, the family were in Dukinfield.
