Tolerance please! If the BBC has been responsible for a surge of interest in genealogy well and good - that means that supply will adjust to meet demand. Maybe the 1911 census might be released a bit earlier, or more programmes will be made giving us more ideas. Don't act as though we have a special club and get cross because some new people want to join. I was looking at my husband's family tree the other day - his mother's cousin had painstakingly done this in the days pre-computer (or word programme). She had had to type out all the names on page and pages. BUT before she could do that, she had to go to St Catherine's House - as it then was - to trawl through the indexes quarter by quarter, year by year, and apply for certificates, as well as search the censuses without the aid of today's indexes. And she didn't have access to the 1901 then, or the 1891! And she was living in America, so had to cram this into her holidays. Count your blessings and be glad the certs will arrive in good time. nell |
