Sue Lambrini Smith Report 15 Aug 2004 22:01

hi all, i have finally accepted the inevitable, and decided to put william [r] walker and all his branch onto a very high shelf in the attic ! like most of you i do like to have the b certs and w certs. and always double check everyone who goes on to my tree. then when i get pre 1837, its off to the library and the parish records- or on here begging [lol] i would hate to waste time on the wrong people, finding enough time to do this, when work-family and housework interfere , is hard enough. but with a name like his, i would never be sure. too many by that name born to ever be sure i had the right one. same with his father, same name, no definate info pre 1873. it is so frustrating, but i really do not know what else i can do. so many generous people have tried to help me over the last few months. some have given me tips, lots have given me info. denise even went to the reg office and posted me a possible b cert back ! but as he changed his age slightly between 1881/1891 and 1901. i do not even know the definate year he was born. without a big shovel and a dna kit, what else can i do ? again many thanks to all who have helped me with wrw in the past. i am REALLY going to stop mentioning him on here ever again. lol. sue. [time to go look at branches i know i can do !] but i am always open to advice !

Sue - just a thought - if Randall ran in the family (so to speak)did you ever try doing a middle name search on the IGI? Jools

Sue Lambrini Smith Report 15 Aug 2004 22:17

hi jools. when i got his w cert [12 months ago] i thought 'great- an unusual middle name' no such luck ! the only william randall walker i have ever come accross was born in hendon in 1874 ! i do have the william randolph who died in the dewsbury area of dewsbury in 1904- right area , right age . pre 1872 no sign of that middle name ! he wasnt born by that name , and i am sure he must have been registered. is possible it should be randolph - he couldnt read or write when he married, could be a mistake. but still no william randolph's anywhere. i did have visions of finding a marriage between a william walker pre 1845 to a wife with the maiden name randall [ this did happen on another branch ] but as they say, lightening doesnt strike twice. where can i go from here, without buying every b cert [if i already havnt got it] for every w w born between 1842 and 1846 in manchester . sue.

hi... no, not giving this up- just him. cherie- am going to huddersfield library, what do you need for bradford [ thats where w walker married in 18661- see, am totally deranged cos of the man !!!] e mail me, will see what they have for bradford. helen, you are so right. i have just had to iron for 2 housr- scowled all the way through it ! naaaah cant give this up ! daft thing is , the other branches would be relatively easy- all yorkshire ! hi elaine petal, have missed you, and didnt get the e mail. have got a scorcher for you, but do not know where to send it. lol. its a bit rude if anyone else wants it let me know . i really just think this is impossible, even if i find a william, wife jane and son william, on say the 1861- still cannot be sure it is the right lot. too many william/ jane and william combos ! i sound like david cassidy- but how can i be SURE ! need to lay him to rest [ again !] and play elsewhere . cannot see the walker for the trees . lol. sue. ps nice to see you are back elaine, does your mate know you have her computer, or was it a back door runner- i gathered you were getting the old withdrawal symptoms. lol.

Hi Sue. Just saw your message. I've quit twice now, looking for one relative in particular. I get extremely frustrated, slam my binder shut, swear that I'll never look for him again and then concentrate on other branches. About two weeks later I think to myself, wellllll, I'll just try ONE more google search and the next thing I know, I'm back to looking for him again. Like others have said, don't quit looking for him, just put him away for a bit. My "James", and I've been looking for him on and off for 25 years, refuses to be found, but every once in a while I find things. The latest terribly exciting event was receiving photographs from my aunt. All of the photos my aunt gave me were from that side of the family. One photo was unidentified. I just found out it was taken during the 1860's which means it is more than likely my James! Don't stop looking for your William. Bits of information WILL pop up eventually.

hi lisa, 25 years and still trying ! must admit i have just found out someone has a partial 1861 lancs index , my first thought 'i wonder if william and son william are there' so i dont think he will be staying on the shelf long ! it is just sooooo frustrating ! lol, sue.

Hi Sue: I started researching when I was in college. Stopped when my first son was born. Started again. Stopped when the second one was born. Started again. Off and on through the years. The past 3 years I've been sitting here, every night, searching via the internet. I've found more during the past 3 years than the prior 22, thanks to the internet and GC members!!! Had to laugh about you wondering about William -- sounds like me! Good luck. :~)

Hi Sue I know just how you feel I have now given up on one side of my family because other than the 1881 census I can't find anything and such a conflict in age could be as much as 16 years feel very upset about it but thats life and a lot of people on here have tried to help me which I am really grateful for. And Sue you have helped me in the past best wishes Margaret

Sue Lambrini Smith Report 16 Aug 2004 21:14

lisa, i couldnt agree more. 5 years ago i bought the 1881 from lds [best thing i ever bought] and started researching my mums tree. there was hardly anything on the internet apart from lds. so i got used to visiting the library, which i still enjoy. i still get amazed by what can be found on the internet.obviously it has been realised that this is popular enough to be worth investing in. lol. sue.

Hi Sue, I know exactly how you feel! I have had to put my great x 3 grandad, George Tate to rest for a while (so to speak!) I know that he died in 1844 aged 59, seen his grave and have the death certificate, but can't get back any further. So frustrating because I have found out so much about the man. Trying to find out about my Welsh Morgans now, another challenge, I think! Maggy
