Hi Sue Jane Elizabeth Hitchen married William Routh at St Peter's Leeds on November 26th 1866. I have their marriage certificate and that shows her father as Robert Hitchen. On the 1881 census she's down as being born in Wakefield so I hoped that she and her parents would be on a previous census and that would give me her mother's name. Thanks and regards Di

hi di, when was she born. isnt it possible , if she married in leeds, that she could have been living in leeds in 1861. might i be better looking on the 1851 wakefield census- might be more chance of her still being there ? have you an address on the cert ? sue.

Di From

Di From Report 20 Aug 2004 10:27

Hi Sue Jane Elizabeth Hitchen was living in Sykes Row when she married in 1866 in Leeds. She was 23 at the time of her marriage so that would make her birth year around 1843. Hope this helps Regards Di

hi di , i looked right through the main disc for wakefield last night, 1851 ,no sign of her. but wakefield could mean anywhere on the outskirts too . might be worth me looking up the address you have given on the 1861 ?but do you know what area in leeds it is, there are 1000's of pages. sue.

Sue, thank you for looking. I have very little information other than my gg grandmother Charlotte Hepworth was born in Wakefield (baptized 1809 Wakefield daughter of Aaron and Betty). The secretary of Yorkshire Parish Registers very kindly looked for a marriage for me in Wakefield - the only Betty/Elizabeth & Aaron marriage she found was in Halifax in Feb 1800. Given that Charlotte was born in Wakefield, I was hoping that Aaron and Betty might still be alive and might appear there. Charlotte was in London by 1841, married to my gg grandfather William Knapp. thank you for any help you can give - I am aware that Hepworth is a common name! Linda

Sue, would you be able to check a marriage for Ann Collett to David Batty (or any Batty for that matter) I have the records for St Johns and no where can I find Ann. Julie Rusby is being brill and trying to help me with the census. Ann was widowed by the 1861 census so thats the cut off point. David (her possible husband was born in 1819) Ta Sue Sue xx

Hi Sue, I did a search for Sykes Row and on Genuki it says it was in Leeds in Pigot's Directory of 1829 for professions and trades. I looked on a route finder and it says it's near Holbeck, off Neville Street. It seems to be right in the centre of Leeds. Regards Di
