Thanks for looking Karen. I'll have to see if he's in an 1861 census, although since he was a mariner he may have already run away to sea by the time he was 16.

Hi April I'll have a look over the weekend or late this evening, they probably wont be in the Hastings area, but probably in Burwash as you say they had a son born in Burwash in 1851 but I will have a look in both for you and post details over the next couple of days. Karen

Hi Karen If it sounds like the right area can you check the Hasting - All Saints 1851 Census for: JOHN SAUNDERS born 1818 Burwash Sussex Wife FRANCES SAUNDERS b. 1820 Sussex Son JOHN CLAPSON SAUNDERS b. c1845 Son NATHANIEL SAUNDERS b. c.1847 Battle Sussex Son EDGAR SAUNDERS b. 1848 St. Leonards on Sea Sussex Son VICTOR SAUNDERS b. 1851 Burwash Sussex The next 4 children were born in St Leonards on Sea 1853-1864 and the family is on 1871/1881/1891 Censuses at St Mary Magdalene, Hastings & St. Leonards. My interest is in John Clapson Saunders who moved to Australia in 1865, so I haven't found him on a census. April

Hi Karen, I am looking for a family missing from Kent!! William Smith wife Fanny and children George William Smith b1840 and Harriet Smith. If you could find where they went. They disappeared after 1841 and did not show up until 1871. Grandchild married in Bethnal Green so dont know where they were inbetween. With so many Smiths its very difficult. Thanks Gloria

Hi Julie Not much success I'm afraid, the only person I could find on your list was a Susan Ballard - widow - 71 years old - washerwoman - Born Eastbourne, Sussex - living Eastbourne Street, Hastings Hope this helps you. Karen
