Debi Coone Report 10 Dec 2003 08:44

Margaret Thank you for the look up it's very much appreciated. I'd never heard of Ula either, but my Granny is adamant that thats were her father Donald McKenzie was born. She herself is from West Lothian which is were Donald is buried. Other than that I've no real info on them at all. The Donald you found can't be mine as his father is called Peter . All Granny can re call are names *sigh* Got a list of names as long as your arm lol. Would you mind looking up in West Lothian at all pls? Sorry to be a pain. Much Happiness Debi

Hi Debie, You have not said where Ula is, I have never heard of it? There is also nothing listed for any McKenzie born in Ula? Would if be Ullapool? The one below is the only one born around that time but the details don't tie up. I have also listed two Peters (father and son) born in Ullapool. Let me know if you want me to have another look is you have more details. Hi Margaret All I have for Hugh is that he was born 3/8/1871 in Perth - father David's occupation listed as General Labourer. He married in Dalkeith in 1892. Will give IGI a look-up for Janet Amber. Many thanks. Debbie

Debbie Report 2 Dec 2003 22:08

Hi Margaret Debbie here!! Just wondered if you could do a check for me for Hugh Ferguson born in Perth 1871, parents David Ferguson and Mary Halliday. Interested to know if there are any other siblings or whether David and Mary deceased at this time as they were definitely deceased at the time of Hugh Ferguson's marraige to Janet Amber in 1892. Many thanks Debbie

Hi Margaret, Andrew Gulland aged 77 and his wife Margaret 77 definitely look like the parents of my late mother-in-law's family. Three of the Gulland daughters came out to New Zealand and married between 1863 and 1865. You have also found their other daughter Elizabeth and tracked down their son James in London. Don't know if the other Gullands you found are related but good to have as I might find they fit in somewhere. The Scottish census seems to have so much information on it, I really appreciate your help. Christine

Val :~) from West Wirral Report 27 Nov 2003 11:15

Hello Margaret, Remember me!! I am so sorry to be a pain, but my Dad has now agreed with me that the name I should be looking up is NOT Helen Stewart Watt, as he always argued, but HELEN STEWART or STUART born in 1863 could be 1868! in Arbroath Forfar Scotland. I could NEVER understand why he thought her maiden name was Watt, when her daughter was a Watt (Lillian) but who am I to argue!! Anyway I wondered if you could do me another favour and look up her details. household etc. I'm eternally grateful to you Best wishes Val

Hi Janet, If Nellie was born in 1882 I will not be able to find her on the 1881 Census? You should find her easily of Scotlands People. Have you tried that yet? I could put money on it that McBain will probably be her mother or grandmothers maiden name. Let me know if I can be of more help. Regards Margaret

Janet Report 25 Nov 2003 21:59

Hi Margaret thanks so much for looking for me . Other members of the family have always got stumped when they reach George. My grandmother was also born in Scotland. Her name was Nellie McBain Carnaghan born1882. My aunt her daughter said McBain was just a name they used but there must be more to it than that. I know they moved to Hastings but when I dont Know. The thing is Im trying to find my Fathers tree but with a name like Evans I thought it would be easier to trace my grandmother with a name like Carnaghan to find him. How wrong can you be!! If you could find out anything about Nellie it would give me something to go on thanks again for all your help Im very grateful Janet Fuller

Hi Janet, Have you looked on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the birth and possibly the marriage? It should be easy to find with that surname as it is not very common. Here are the details from the free search which tells you how many there were with the name Carnaghan registered - OPRI & SRI Birth & Christenings (1 January 1553 - 1902) 38 OPRI & SRI Marriages (1 January 1553 - 1927) 15 SRI Deaths (1855 - 1952) 34 Bear in mind that there will not by any certificates for any BMD's before 1855. You will only find an index to the parish registers but that should show the date and parents names.
