Can I get a look up on WIlliam Horace George b.1900c and Elsie Wood b.Dec 1898 Ladywood, Birmingham.

I have Smethwick as place of birth for William, and parent's as Lewis George and Rose (surname unknown at this time).
I'm not sure if this information is correct, so would appreciate any help with these pair.

I also have siblings, although no DoB's for them.

Bernard, Harold, Ampthis, Elsie and William.
__________
Elsie's parent's are George Wood b.1864c no PoB and Emma (again surname unknown at this time) b.1867c

Many thanks

Not sure on the marriage's, but the census looks to be them.

Just out of curiousity, who is Cavroline Moria George 36 on the 1901 census?

Thank you for checking.

It looks like Caroline Moira Gregory, rather than George. She's listed as a boarder. Apologies - I should have put 69 Florence Road, not 68.

This birth seems to fit with the census info:

Louis and Rosannah's marriage?

There's a Gregory family living at 68 Florence Road in the 1901 census, perhaps she's related to them.

Again, i'm not sure! Would be it normal practice to marry your neighbour? ( I know i wouldn't.. hehehe)

Maybe it might help for me to get William's birth cert to get he's mmn.

Do you think we might be able to go further back on Louis through census?

It's a bit confusing as the children seem to interchange their first and middle names. As an example - this Son uses the name Ambrose in 1881 and Sidney in 1891

Births Mar 1872 (>99%)

GEORGE Ambrose Sidney Birmingham 6d 248

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:12

Ok now I am confused!

I recognise the parent's name on 1881 and 1891 census, but not the children.
I understand that Louis wouldn't be on the 1881 and possibly not Lillian depending on what time of the year she was born. But the Sidney probably wouldn't be living at home by the time he is 29.

But where did all the other children come from?
They weren't shown on the 1891, but there are loads of them on 1881!

Possibly 2 different families?

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:21

Oh I think I got it...

So you're saying that Alexander would be Louis
and that Amelia would be Lillian?

I'm guessing that as Amelia doesn't have an age, which would make her newborn.

But why would Ambrose be Sidney? I know you gave me the birth, But the bit that throws me is the T after Ambrose?

Sorry If I'm confusing you too, I'm completely lost!

Linda

Linda Report 2 Sep 2007 20:26

Just a theory unless it can be proved with the certs, but Louis/Alexander seem to be the same person, interchanging names as Ambrose/Sidney appears to have done. Most of the children on the 1881 census would have been of an age to have left home and possibly married by 1891. Sorry, you've lost me - where does it say Sidney was at home when he was 29?

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:36

"But the Sidney probably wouldn't be living at home by the time he is 29"

My main query is that Ambrose T maybe the same age as what Sidney would have been, but why not use the name that starts with "T" or why is the "T" not an "S" for Sidney?

What a confusing family!

Linda

Linda Report 2 Sep 2007 20:39

It appears as Ambrose T on the info page, but if you look at the image it's an S - there are loads of mistranscriptions as you can see by the few pages I've posted. As I said, it's just a theory, but everything seems to fit.

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:52

Please forgive me Lindy, I wasn't trying to sound contradicting. Just this family has confused the hell outta me, not that it needs much to confuse me these days.

Are you able to find a birth for Lillian/Amelia... it might help if I can get her's and Louis' cert's to know for sure?

Beginning to wonder why I started this now?

Linda

Linda Report 2 Sep 2007 21:00

No problem at all - I'm confused too! I've had members of my family change names at will, but not in quite such numbers. From freebmd:

Births Jun 1880 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GEORGE Amelia Lilian Birmingham 6d 240

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 21:10

Sorry to be a pain Lindy, just one last request! Then I'm gonna call it a night after giving myself the biggest head ache of all time.

Can you locate the family on the 1871 cenus? Might be able to get the other children names too, middle, first... whatever they call themselves.

And I'll try and track something from them, not sure how or where just yet... but the plot sure is thickening with the George's!

Thanks for all your help.
You've been a star.
