Just did a quick search and found that Norton Lindsey comes under Barlichway, couldn't find a christening for William on IGI though. Maybe someone with access to Warwickshire parish records would be able to help? I'm still struggling with pre-census info!

Ok I bit the bullet and tried to track William back further.. found him in 1851 and Harriett was still living with him and Eliza then.
She must have been a really good sister!

Anyhow, now looking at the 1841, I'm kinda torn!
I know nothing of the old time town names, but couldn't find he's named town of birth North Lindsey.
What I did find what someone who matched the same age bracket, but was born...

Name: William George
Age: 15
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Gender: Male
Where born: Warwickshire, England

Civil Parish: Alcester
Hundred: Barlichway (Alcester Division)
County/Island: Warwickshire
Country: England

Still in Warwickshire, could it be the same one?

Why are other peoples' families so much more interesting than mine?! Hmmph. I think your record for Eliza's death sounds by far the more likely one. He didn't hang about did he! I'll send you the census records tomorrow as I very cleverly didn't save them. So glad that it all seems to be fitting together.

Cracked it...

Found the death of Eliza.

Which would make it possible for him to marry Harriett!

What a puzzle?!?!

The other thing was I was unable to find a marriage between Harriett Marshall and anyone named Hall, but I haven't tried IGI for that yet.

Edit***Nothing on IGI

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 23:15

I had the same thought as you, maybe he had married Eliza and then married Harriett Hall... but then thinking about it... Harriet has been persistantly there the whole time. He could of been a swinger... lol, sorry.

But if he did marry Harriett Marshall in 1862, and you have Eliza's death in 1865.. would they have got divorced? It don't seem likely if he has all the kid's!

Could she have been ill? Or was William a biggamist?

Thinking caps on!

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 23:08

Well i was just gonna go to bed, but I definetly think I got it.
I just looked up marriages on BMD fo William George an Harriett... I got 2 back!
No Harriett Maria Hall mentioned... but... I got Harriett Swingler andddddd.....
Harriet Marshall.

So, did Harriet take over from her sister Eliza then, meaning after she died? Eliza would be he's first wife, and Harriet would be the 2nd?

Interestingly enough, I just searched up Eliza Marshall and found her to have a marriage the same month and year. (ignore this bit, confused again)

Harborne is in the Kings Norton reg district. William could have married Eliza in 1848 and her sister Harriett in 1871. Possible death for Eliza:

I'm not sure, but I think I just found William's marriage to Harriet Maria Hall, but it's dated 25th Dec 1871.
Found that on IGI, so I guess I better try and work out some of the other kids.

Thanks again for your help... the quest goes on!

Sorry to be a pain Lindy, just one last request! Then I'm gonna call it a night after giving myself the biggest head ache of all time.

Can you locate the family on the 1871 cenus? Might be able to get the other children names too, middle, first... whatever they call themselves.

And I'll try and track something from them, not sure how or where just yet... but the plot sure is thickening with the George's!

Thanks for all your help.
You've been a star.

No problem at all - I'm confused too! I've had members of my family change names at will, but not in quite such numbers. From freebmd:

Births Jun 1880 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GEORGE Amelia Lilian Birmingham 6d 240

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:52

Please forgive me Lindy, I wasn't trying to sound contradicting. Just this family has confused the hell outta me, not that it needs much to confuse me these days.

Are you able to find a birth for Lillian/Amelia... it might help if I can get her's and Louis' cert's to know for sure?

Beginning to wonder why I started this now?

Linda

Linda Report 2 Sep 2007 20:39

It appears as Ambrose T on the info page, but if you look at the image it's an S - there are loads of mistranscriptions as you can see by the few pages I've posted. As I said, it's just a theory, but everything seems to fit.

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:36

"But the Sidney probably wouldn't be living at home by the time he is 29"

My main query is that Ambrose T maybe the same age as what Sidney would have been, but why not use the name that starts with "T" or why is the "T" not an "S" for Sidney?

What a confusing family!

Linda

Linda Report 2 Sep 2007 20:26

Just a theory unless it can be proved with the certs, but Louis/Alexander seem to be the same person, interchanging names as Ambrose/Sidney appears to have done. Most of the children on the 1881 census would have been of an age to have left home and possibly married by 1891. Sorry, you've lost me - where does it say Sidney was at home when he was 29?

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:21

Oh I think I got it...

So you're saying that Alexander would be Louis
and that Amelia would be Lillian?

I'm guessing that as Amelia doesn't have an age, which would make her newborn.

But why would Ambrose be Sidney? I know you gave me the birth, But the bit that throws me is the T after Ambrose?

Sorry If I'm confusing you too, I'm completely lost!

Sheena

Sheena Report 2 Sep 2007 20:12

Ok now I am confused!

I recognise the parent's name on 1881 and 1891 census, but not the children.
I understand that Louis wouldn't be on the 1881 and possibly not Lillian depending on what time of the year she was born. But the Sidney probably wouldn't be living at home by the time he is 29.

But where did all the other children come from?
They weren't shown on the 1891, but there are loads of them on 1881!

Possibly 2 different families?
