Sue
Their children were 3 girls (he had boys in his second marriage) the girls were born 1909, 1919, and 1921, so all three of them were born at the time of this sailing!

Im just getting more confused with this family!!
Incase it helps Elijah later remarried to a Bertha Batcheldor in 1934!! Therefore i am guessing that Dorothy's misbehaviour was between the birth of the last child (1921) and his 2nd marriage (1934)

Does that help at all?!
Thanks
Ian

Ian,

Sorry....I am as confused as you...and I haven't a clue as to what you can do next.

The only thing I can think of is that you put up a thread asking for Canadian help in the hope that something may come to light.

Ian,
If Elijah did go to Canada he didn't stay very long . Found the marriage to Bertha in Mutford :0)))

It does look like a aflse identity for her fella to me!

Ian

Forget that marriage for William and Alice just found them on the 1901

Jane
I am thinking it was a false identity also, mainly because of the missing children and difference in dates etc! However, i dont know how easy/hard it would have been to do this back then... bearing in mind all the checks we do nowadays with passports etc!!

Did they have passports then, did they even have photographic identity? Bearing in mind she had just been arrested for locking children in a bedroom and trying to leave the country, would she have been able to get away with this?
Thanks
Ian

Ian,
There were passports which would have just been paper untill tthe outbreak of ar in 1914, when they were still printed on paper but also included a photo, a signature and a personal description. They cost 6d.

In 1920 they stated to issue the 32 page passport, but on neither of these bits I've found does it say stringent checks were mada as they are now. I cant even find a date for when the personal checks started ;0((

Julie
That other marriage record you have just sent for Alice and William, from what i gather William's surname is written as 'Ward' and his other names as William Parker could this still be him and if so, where does Ward come from or why are the children not named Ward?
Any ideas
Thanks Ian

Thanks for your help Jane,
This family get darker and darker as i progress!!!

The only thing from what you say the full paged passport started in 1920, wasnt the sailing they were on 1928? Mind you i guess they still wouldnt have checked it like they do nowadays!! They just like to confuse me even more, didnt make things easier for us (and the future generations) to find out about them!! lol

ceri Report 5 Sep 2007 15:16

I just been thinking about that passenger record again and i believe you said that Elijah was down as being 28 years old!! The sailing was in 1928, which would mean that elijah would of had to be born around 1900!!

Well, my point is that he wasnt, he was born in 1895 in Mutford and later died in 1964!!!
It cant have been him!! God they are so sneeky arent they!!

Ian

I have just spoken to my aunt who advised that the sailing i have her as leaving UK (1928) is the one where she was trying to leave UK with her fella and got arrested at Calai, my aunt doesnt believe that she actually ever got to Canada or out of the country for that matter!!
THanks
Ian

Ian/Ceri

Would not not be a good idea if you took advantage of a free 14 day trial on Ancestry? I am aware that a vast amount of info was supplied to you only last night

Thank you for your suggestion, i will be probably getting the full ancestry sub, but as i am actually about to have a baby any day now (its already late), i do not want to take out another sub until i have had baby and actually get a chance to do the tree again, in view that they are expensive and i dont know at present how much time i will have bearing in mind i have a 2 year old aswell.
The info my partner was obtaining last night was for his side of the tree and nothing to do with the person i have enquired about now.
I dont understand why people are checking us out etc when we ask for a little help in view that i am on here most nights helping others out in both their threads and my own when i had them open.
Sorry and thanks again

Sorry Ceri but I wasn't checking up on you, I was on here last night & saw both your partner's threads. As others were already helping you I didn't interfere.
Good luck with the baby
