Hello Diane

I would like to take you up ion your kind offer if I may please.

I am looking for Jane Long born Doncaster 1828 -1831 depending which census age you believe!

I am sorry I don't have a lot more info as she is one of my brick walls. I have her on census from 1861 to 1901 but in her married name which was Ward, and all in York.
However on all censuses she has consistently put Doncaster as her place of birth.

Only 2 children that I know of Bessy/Betsy ( could be short for Elizabeth?) and Ellen in case this shows as a mother's name.

So sorry this is turning into war and peace but I wanted to give you as much info as possible.

thanks you

Christine

Have searched all Janes born in Doncaster in 1841, and none jump out as mis-transcriptions for Long.....

guess this is one for the experts on the Records Office board if you don't think the Ansty one is right...

sorry :(

thank you Diane for looking,

I don't think somehow think she's mine.

Have googled and there isn't an Ansty near Doncaster

I do appreciate you looking though :)

Could I be cheeky and ask you to check the 1851 for me if it's not too much trouble

many thanks

think we need to find what area Doncaster came under back in those days...
There are several options in 1851, none of which are immediately obvious..

Hi Diane

Sorry I have just looked on Genuki and there are so many areas around Doncaster.

I realise I have set you an impossible task with so little information.
This is a problem family!!

I really appreciate the time you have spent and perhaps I may post again if I can narrow the area down a little?

thanks again

Christine :)

Di - I had actually asked for information elsewhere, but after I copied it into my records, I got the dates all mixed up - and wasn't sure which which census I was typing up - so am starting all over again.

Parents Robert T Smith & Laura Ann (nee Burgess)
Children
Robert Chas Smith
Kate B Smith
William Hy Smith
Edith F Smith
Thomas Jas Smith

They were living in Cheltenham, Glos, and parents were married in 1872, so children followed thereafter.

I'm looking for Census 1881, 1891 & 1901.

Parents were born (approx) 1851 & 1845 respectively)

Hope you can help
Judy

Diane Report 8 Oct 2007 13:23

Kath,

where was Thomas born ? are you sure you are looking at the same person if the birth dates are 10 years apart?

If you give me at least the county he was under in the 1841 census I will see what I can do, if you haven't already had the answer....

Diane

Diane Report 8 Oct 2007 13:32

Doreen,

I've found the marriage... if you order the certificate (from the GRO website £7) with the information below, you will be able to get info on Beatrice's father etc. There were several Beatrice Woodheads born in W Yorks in 1894 so you wouldn't know which to pick otherwise.

Oct/Dec Qtr, 1923. Huddersfield district, Volume 9a, page 707.

Good luck!
