I do not know about you Claire, Jim and Louise but I am getting very confused here. You have found two possible families for me. So I need to try and find out which is my one.

Let me explain my reasoning here.

I was sent this email:

As always this is probably a dead end, but one never knows. I have the will of Ella Hoggard of E.Halton in my possession. She d. 23.6.1954 willing to Alfred Ernest Grey her brother-in-law and sister Priscilla (nee Ellerby) his wife and also to Florence Ellerby her step-sister. I don't know where they all fit into my tree but I remember a Walter Ellerby visiting my parents. Do any of these seem familiar? Julian.

I found a marriage between Priscilla Clark and Alfred Grey 1919. So I thought as Julian said Julian had said Priscilla's name was Ellery I thought her mother must have marriaed twice. Hence marriage to William Thackery Ellerby and Harry Clarke.
Julian also said she had a step sister Florence ellerby which would also suggest her mother had married twice.

Then Claire found the 1901 census with children with the names Ellerby and clarke so that looked like my family.

However it said her mother was Sarah Ann ellerby age 69. If Sarah Ann Ellerby was her mother she could not have married William Thackery Ellerby. See my problem.

Jim Your 1871 censu is look good as well. That says her mother is Mary ann Thomson. If that is true who is Sarah Ann Ellerby on the 1901 censu Claire found. Was she MOther in Law and not mother perhaps??

so if we can discount Mary Ellen Thomas who marrried William Thackery out it must mean the other family is mine.

So she was born Mary Ann Ellerby not Clarke.

Her parent were Joseph and Mary Ann Ellerby. This Mary Ann went on to marry Harry Clark.
Then at mary ann's (the daughter) marriage she used the name clarke not Ellerby. Does this sound right

The info we have suggests that Mary Ellen Ellerby the daughter of Sarah Ann & Joseph Ellerby married Harry Clark therefore from 1888 onwards she should have signed all documents as Clark.
I've lost the plot on her daughter Mary Ann as I can only find Sarah Ann.

Ella Hoggard died 1954 Grimsby age 68

If ella was born about 1886 I have no idea of her connection to Harry Then.

Please can you remind me where Harry Clark was born. I couldn't see it on the census. Or there again was it Saxby Lincs?
