I can't find either of these brothers after 1851

I can't find either of these brothers after the 1851 census -

Nathaniel Barnett b. abt. 1835 Covent Garden, London and
Simon Barnett b. June Qtr. 1843 Covent Garden
On the 1851 Census, the family is living at 71 Judd Street, Gray's Inn, London. Father Benjamin is a Tobacconist, mother Charlotte.

Can anyone find any trace of them please?

Carrie - that's definitely the family in 1861. Oh dear in the workhouse!!

Could be Nathaniel - don't understand why the place is given as Dorset and Anglesey?

Do Simon and Nathaniel show on subsequent censuses? I have the parents -
On the 1871 census, Benjamin and Charlotte are living in St Olave, Southwark
On the 1881 census, Benjamin and Charlotte are living at 141 Grange Road, Bermondsey. Benjamin is a Commercial Traveller.

At least they got out of the Workhouse

Nathaniel is on Board ship and Dorset is the area he is in....Hmmm, see what you mean?

Thanks for your help Carrie. I don't have an address fro Benjamin and Cahrlotte in 1871 just St Olave's so perhaps they were still in the workhouse

Benjamin and Charlotte

140 Grays Inn Road, Bermondsey, Surrey

Beverley

Beverley Report 29 Oct 2007 10:28

I saw that Liverpool one, but dismissed it cos of Liverpool, but if as you say it is crossed out could be a possibility. Have to find that family 91 & 01

Yes Nathaniel was probably serving away but can't see him after that either, so away all the time..?

Carrie

Carrie Report 29 Oct 2007 10:32

Nothing positive after that, all others Seem to be other people... may try later for you, when I have more time..

I have got Simeom/Simon in 1901 still birthplace Liverpool so I am not convinced he is 'mine', unless he was very confused...or up to something!!

Appreciate you time and help Carrie.

Whilst the 1861 does say "workhouse" from the original image, I don't think this is correct. Benjamin is a tobacconist & Simon a natutical instrument maker

Beverley Report 29 Oct 2007 10:56

Well that fits Benjamin. I can't see Nathaniel on the Ellis Island Site passenger lists, perhaps he shows on Ancestry?? Looking on the SS death lists now. I think I'll start a thread to ask for US census info to try to confirm this Nat is mine.

Thank you Claire - this looking hopeful
