Michelle looking at earlier census details ( in particular the 1871 ) both William's above in 1901 are in fact as I thought related as Father & Son....

hi thankyou ,my great great grandfather was indentured to a william saywell in 1871 newborough for five years , my gggrandfather had been in workhouse .but was then sponsered by a solicitor samuel charles watson buckle i was just filling in some gaps really ,trying to get a full picture if you know what i mean .
i have tried to find my gggrandfather on census 1881 but have never found him listed so was just seeing if he was with william saywell maybe

Would you like to give details of your GG Grandfather name, year & place of birth parents if known....... perhaps a member like myself can help you search for him on the 1881 census??

my gggrandfathers details are john blackham born 1858 peterborough .
was in workhouse 1861 ,1871
cant find him in 1881

married agnes levina rimes 1882 mkt harborough
1891 was in peterborough stpauls rd
1901 was in peterborough bright street
am desperate to find out where he was in 1881 would be very grateful for any help

her and son were in lodging in 1861 but son was in workhouse 1871

Can't spot him at present......did the marriage certificate give an address? Was his occupation that of a Blacksmith in 1882?

Cant see him even using soundex on surname or no surname at all just place of births............have you thought he may well be fighting in the first Boer War?

Does he have a middle name? May he be recorded under that?

yes he was a master blacksmith when he got married and was living in great bowden which is near mkt harborough on marriage cert

he didnt have a middle name think it is unusual most people were given middle names around that time but think his mum sarah was illiterate maybe i know she was blind/deaf/dumb maybe thats the reason why or maybe just because he was born illegitimate ?
