I've just put the details in that you gave me for Salford, and looking at the image, I think thats my girl.

Will have to do some googling and see if I can find any more out - other than that it's bribing my Hubby for a trip to Salford Library and Manchester Records Office to see if I can find out more.

I'm also booking myself another trip to Halifax in the coming weeks to see if I can find any more children for Dorothy and John as I feel they must have had some children between their marriage in 1819 and the first child I have found so far of Jane Lapish born 1830.

I'm really interested in the Dorothy you have found on Regent road, Salford as her granddaughter eventually married and lived on Regent Road. Will do some more digging and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the info about Elizabeth Wood - will also check that out. Incidentally I've been to Todmorden (and Walsden) where Gauxholme is and the is a viaduct there that you go under and funnily enough, just up the road a railway station????

Hmm, perhaps not the right Elizabeth. I found two by looking for her with Rochdale as the keyword and born 1835 +/- 1:

Aah, I did find an Elizabeth Wood with her family in an institution in 1841 aged 6 - the place was full of families - had the authorities just demolished another street to make way for a railway? Or is 1841 a little too early for that?

There is an Elizabeth Lapish marrying in Leeds in 1838 - 4 names of grooms to choose from - one is Geo Crosby - could Cropley/Crosby be a mistranscription? I'll have a look for them.

Just had a quick check on Curious Fox and yes thats me - it was the last time I visited this particular line - but am now giving them another shot.

I think there are definately other siblings around - there must be for a granddaughter to get a mention on the census, so I think another trip to Halifax is on the cards to check the baptism records (unfortunately I ran out of time today)

Umm, a Dor* Wood/Cropley brought no results for 1841. Also tried Google - is it your entry on Curious Fox in Mar 06, or would this be another researcher?

Yes, with a marriage in 1819 and no children in 1841 before the one born around 1831it does look as if there are other siblings to be found...

Ivy - no and no - I haven't had any success with them either:-( Until today, I didn't even know when Dorothy and John got married - managed to track down the marriage details with a trip to Halifax Local Studies Library:-) so only now in a position to try and find any other siblings of John and Thomas.

Bacardi, have you tracked down Elizabeth Wood on the 1841 census (the 16 yr old niece on the 1851)? And whose is Mary Cropley (the granddaughter aged 9 in 1851)?

I can get to John Lapish on Ancestry by putting his name in and giving Lancashire as the county, Rochdale as the Civil Parish and Salford as the Hundred and he is the first one that comes up on the list (birth about 1801 and with children John and Thomas).
