Yes Reg that is a possibility.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Nov 2007 12:15

The other possibility is that George was illegitimate.

Yes, that could be Harold on the 1901. My friends grandmother was Stella Foster Edwards born 1902. So the name ties in.

That's what is confusing me too.

I've looked for Samuel too on the 1851 & 1861 censuses. The only one I can find as a farmer is in Higher Kinnerton which is not too far from Hawarden, he's stated as a farmers son, but is still unmarried on the 1871 census, so it can't be him.

The only other thing I can think, is that George's father died when he was very young and he wasn't sure of his name. What do you think?

Edwards Harold Foster
Wrexham 11b 284

So this could be Harold T in 1901

GlitterBaby Report 4 Nov 2007 10:59

Still puzzled by this as he is not a farmer in 1901 - listed as Pte R W Ind S - which is surely a soldier

Jo in Wales

Jo in Wales Report 4 Nov 2007 10:56

I've thought that too Reg, but he's still stated as a soldier on the 1901 census.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Nov 2007 10:54

Perhaps he left the Army in time for the wedding......maybe the father died and he inherited the farm.........

Just thinking aloud..........

(Just noticed in your original message that you say the cert had him as a farmer......missed that first time!.........apologies)

The age is OK.............still can't see him, though!

One of the children born in 1902 has the middle name Foster too.

Jo in Wales

Jo in Wales Report 4 Nov 2007 10:48

I'm actually doing this for a friend, he does have a birth certificate for one of the children and it is the correct couple.

His marriage cert states him as a farmer.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 4 Nov 2007 10:45

Do you have one of the childrens birth certs to confirm this is the right couple in 1901.

Just that he is saying the same year of birth in 1891 and 1901 which does not match with the marriage cert. Does he say soldier for occupation on marriage cert.

Oops just seen your reply - not sure its the same man

Jo in Wales Report 4 Nov 2007 10:43

Sorry Reg, consider myself told off lol.

He states himself as a farmer too on his marriage certificate. Maybe that's a mistake by the registrar.

He was in Barracks because he was in the Army (Royal Welsh Fusiliers).......it was his father who was the farmer.

Jo..........

Just a little tip..........birthplace info is one of the main search tools, so always include it when asking for lookups.....if known, of course.

Reggie - Thanks for your reply. It is only George I am looking for as I have Eliza's family thank you and I have access to ancestry, but cannot find him.

Glitter Baby - Thanks for your reply. I can't understand why he's in the barracks either, but his place of birth (Hawarden) ties up on the 1891 & 1901 censuses. I will try and post the census details in a moment.

Can you post the 1891 details.

The marriage took place after the census. A bit puzzled as to why he was in barracks if a farmer.
