I didn't know that. I thought It was a proper refernce not the volume/page. I'll try again.

The application includes the question...'Are GRO refs known?'

You must tick the box which says 'yes'

The 'refs' are the Volume number and the Page number, which you have.............

You do not then need the exact DOB

As Sam says, don't forget when the form asks "Is the Full GRO Index known?" to tick the "yes" box. If you leave it on "no" they will charge you more.

You don't need the exact date for certificates from 1904, just make sure you tick YES in the box that asks if the GRO ref is known.

Doing another search I just came up with the month. I always seem to get different details when I search. Strange.

You need the full GRO Index (which includes name, year, quarter, district, volume number and page number).

If you want to give the name and year I'll have a look for the index for you.

Hi, I am trying to order a birth certficate for my GF's sister. The application wants a full birth date. I have the year and area etc, just not the day and month. How do people get this info to apply for the certificates?
