Hi Tom

Sorry I have been away for so long.

I have had a thought and wonder can you look at 1871 William Houghton census and see if Elizabeth is mentioned as his wife.he is aged 22on that one. Soprry I haven't got access to the census' .
I note that there is a William Houghton age 2 in 1851 census birth place Prescot Farnworth.

Am hoping that this might be the same one.
What do you think.

Hi keith

I don't mind ordering the certificates it's just how do I know that I will have the correct information re William's parents now that I haven't got the name on the marriage certificate

Elizabeth, one way if we assume the census above is correct with Father Peter and Mother Esther is to order all the certs but putting a checking point of mother and fathers names must be Peter & Esther.

The GRO will not send the cert if it does not match the checking point, but they will deduct £3 search fee per wrong cert.

Hope this helps.

Hi Tom

If I order the certificates how am I going to know which is the correct one??

I suppose there aren't any coal mining directories that would list people and family names I know I am probably just being stupid now

Tom

What do you suggest I do to get the proof.I suppose it could be a case of going up to the records office and seeking help there.

I live in Stroud so it would be a long way to go.
Have you any other ideas?

Sorry to be a pain I am so disappointed as I have been so excited waiting for the certificate all week and it came without the one bit of info I need!!

Tom
It could be. But how do I get proof and why would his father not be listed on the certificate?
Could he have been illegitimate and taken someone else's name?

Hi Tom
One is Faith Waine which was Elizabeth's mother or sister.(Both called faith)
The other 2 are hard to read but I will try

I think it says Henry could be Blakin I can't really read the first letter of the surname.
The other one is Robert and the surname starts Nau then i can't read the rest.It is definately Na...

Might have to ask my husband when he comes home to see if he can make it out. Any way is that any good?!

Is William listed on his marriage cert as bachelor?

Does it say "of full age" perhaps.

Hi Tom

Have looked on my 1891 census and have found him aged 41 so he was the same age as Elizabeth 1850c.It does say Whiston as birth which previously I couldn't read.
He is still around in 1901census

Any ideas
Elizabeth

Pete

Pete Report 7 Nov 2007 13:58

Whiston is near Prescot

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 7 Nov 2007 13:55

Have not heard of Whiston,I could look under that but of course that doesn't mean he was born there.

He was a coalminer

Pete
I was told he was born in Wigan but on here it says Whiston and when I have looked at census' there seemed to be 2 William Houghton's around same age and from same place so I am really stuck.
Elizabeth was born in Prescot 1850.
