I wouldn't say the name is common - can't be too many with that combination of first names, although there will be lots of Henry Chapmans.

You can order certificates from the offical site
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
They cost £7 as you have all the details volume page etc

It seems as though Janice has already done this for you and didn't find him. Not all WW1records are on Ancestry. The rest are at National Archives Kew.

If you get the marriage cert. it should give fathers name and occupation and you might be lucky and have a witness who is family!
Having fathers name may help to locate them on a census
You can look on http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ to see how many birth there are 1876-1878
