I have documentation saying that George Young was born in Bath Somerset 1858. I also have his marriage certificate giving his fathers name as William Young profession Druggist. However I cannot find a William Young anywhere else with this profession. If anyone out there can help me I would be so gratefull, I feel that I have come to a dead end.

Margaret, William being the father means there is nothing to say he wasn't born in Wiltshire. George is the only one known to be born in Bath.

Ozi.

But your George already had a brother William, born 1860.
I'll trace this William the druggist back.
1881 census
UH OH! I've made a mistake! William, the druggist was born 1833 in Warminster, Wiltshire. I was looking at too many name at the same time and got myself into a muddle. Sorry about that.
Guess I won't bother tracing him back.

Quite strange to find another William Young that was a druggist born 1842 Bath there is only 15 years between him and George he could be a sibling.
A long shot I know but there is a connection. Have you any more details on him ?

I believe that George just didn't know what his father's occupation was, he was so young when he died.
Curiously though there is a William Young on the 81 census who is a druggist and he was born Bath. I thought at first it might be George's brother but he was born 1842, too old to be his brother, too young to be his father!
Didn't they like to make it complicated for us?

I believe Ellen Young then married Peter Germain June Q 1866, Bath.

Ellen, wife, 41. laundress
Francis, son, 4, scholar
Albert, son, 2, scholar
Edwin, son, 1
Ellen Young,dau, 15, laundress
George Young, son, 13, errand boy
William Young, son, 11, scholar
Ellen and children all born Bath.

Yes this is what I thought but what has confused me is that Williams occupation on his marriage certificate is Porter and on his sons (George) marriage certificate his occupation is a druggist.

I still think this is your George in 1861 and his father had already died.
Bathwick, Bath, Somersetshire
Ellen Young, head, widow, 32, chapel keeper, born Wilts, Bradford
Elizabeth, dau, 11
Ellen, dau, 5
George, son, 3
William, son, 1
George Bush, brother, married, 34 railway contractor, born Wilts, Bradford
Chidren all born Bath.

This makes Ellen's maiden name Bush and it was Ellen Bush who married William Francis Young.
And William Francis Young died Dec. Q 1860, Bath.

Yes this is George but I can't find his father William. I don't know if he continued living in Somerset or moved when George did.

Not sure where George was in 1881 but he married in 1883 and his address is 94 York Street Westminster London / County of Middlesex. William is not deceased on the marriage certificate.

Carolyn, when did George marry and where is he in 1881. I can't see one born Bath on the census.

No "druggist" named Young in Bath Directory of 1852

Jim The Ferret

Jim The Ferret Report 20 Nov 2007 23:09

Does the marriage cert of George say that William is deceased?

Carolyn

Carolyn Report 20 Nov 2007 22:59

Jim, I have a copy of the marriage certificate between William and Ellen and his profession is definately 'Porter'

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 20 Nov 2007 22:56

I disagree, Jim, it's definitely porter. Compare the first letter with the D in daughter. Besides they didn't use the term doctor in those days, it was either physician or surgeon.

Jim The Ferret

Jim The Ferret Report 20 Nov 2007 22:51

Having looked at the 1851 image, I think it might say Doctor rather than Porter.
