Not sure of status in 1871, looking for wife.

I wondered if Dorothy died & he remarried. Large gap between sons.

Did you notice that on the 1871 it said that Charles Joyce was Married?

On the 1881 he is Widowed


so is wife (possibly Dorothy) still alive in 1871, or is it another of the mistakes in marital status?

This is the order of the household so it certainly looks like he married Dorothy.

Dorothy & Joseph are ag labs. Head of the previous household is a 30 year old William Joyce, thatcher.

We believe Charles was born around 1821 in High Easter, Essex and married in 1840 (to whom??). He had 2 sons that we know of: Charles Henry (b1841) and Alexander (b c1854). He was widowed prior to 1881 when he was still living in High Easter. Can anyone locate him and his family on 1841,1851,1861,1871 Census? Many thanks in anticipation.
