Hi I am trying to trace an Effield Adams previously Gilbert. She was the wife of James Adams and they married in 1848. I have found her in every census bar this one. James was born around 1821 in Portsmouth (I believe) and Effield in Kent. I think they may have gone abroad as James served in the Army. In 1861 he was a Colour Sergeant but his profession was a builder?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If I've missed anything please ask.

Thanks
Samantha

looking at the birth places of the children, the family would have probably been in Nova Scotia in 1851

You don't need to be next of kin to get his army records - if they survive. They would be at National Archives.

Thanks Ann, you PM me a while back about what I'd like to look at at Kew as I live locally. I think I'll start with this then. Thankyou :)
