Fiona Report 26 Dec 2007 07:05

I don't have any of the three in 1871. Would welcome fresh eyes as sometimes when I get stuck I can miss the obvious!

This one (son of William and Eliza) was in Evercreech for 1841, 1851 and 1861, as an ag labourer. We think he then reappears as a road labourer in Wales for 1881 and 1891 (as per this thread).

Another (son of James and Elizabeth, then James and step-mother Ann) was in Evercreech for 1841, 1851 then as a ship's carpenter away in the Navy in 1861. He married Susan Davis in 1864 and I lose them then. Not sure if they are mistranscibed, dead or emigrated.

The last cousin (son of Stephen and Maria/Mary) was in Evercreech in 1841 and 1851 then missing. We think he is the one that died in Queensland, Australia, due to matching parents names on his death certificate, even though he lists a different place of birth and father's occupation. We don't have a year for emigration, but he married in 1865 in Australia so on or before then, so not on 1871 and later census, but maybe on 1861. IF it is actually him????

So finding any in 1871 or later would be great!

Thanks,

Fiona

Hi Fiona,

Can you post him in earlier census for reference please?

I'm seeing a few and I'm not sure if they're your man or the cousins.

Hi, Sorry - someone already found it for me and it wasn't ours, so they deleted the post.

Lol, I'm happy to give up on the Wyman's since we can't actually find the marriage of John to Mary - but would still like to locate John Stride on the 1871 census if anyone has fresh eyes or thinking.

Thanks!

bump - can anyone please find John on the 1871 census - then I can shelve this family for now *grin*

Thanks

So if John wasn't with Mary in 1871, can anyone find him somewhere else in the census?

I have him and his 2 cousins in 1841, 1851 and 1861, then none of them in 1871. Think at least one emigrated, but my guess is that this one (my husband's gg grandfather's brother) should still be there, in England or Wales?

Thanks!

Great, I hadn't thought that laterally with surnames. So possibly William England is William Ingram (right age) without his parents?

So perhaps there is a marriage between 1871 and 1881, for John and Mary - but the name transcription is the problem?

Hi,

I had John Stride possibly being the John Stride that died (freeBMD Deaths Dec qtr 1898 Stride John age 58 Cardiff 11a 170) since the ages are close and he was there in 1881. But for that to be right I'd still expect him there in 1891 (with or without Mary...and the rest).

Hi Fiona,

Although the ancestry transcription says that Mary was a wife in 1871, the actual image says widow. So she's a widow for the second time.

I can't find the marriage to John Stride and unfortunately, there's no sign of any of them after 1881.

They either all died or migrated possibly. What a mysterious family!!!!

Just nudging now I'm here and awake.

Can anyone find John Stride's marriage to Mary Weyman/ Wyman/Waymon?

If she is listed as "wife" on the 1871 census, is she married to John Stride or someone else? Which could narrow down search dates.

Is John Stride still with her on the 1891 census?

Thanks,

Fiona

I'm beginning to think the whole family had an aversion to marriage, lol! Can't find a register for any of them!

Edit- or maybe just an aversion to telling the bureacracy anthing accurate!

can't find Jemima or William after 1881

Fiona

Fiona Report 21 Dec 2007 13:35

Actually - all this is sort of an aside unless it links to my tree :) - I'm mainly after who John Stride married - and so far it's only the 1881 census that ties him to this family, without a marriage recorded.

Fiona

Fiona Report 21 Dec 2007 13:28

I don't think that is the right Jemima - or else a lot more is wrong, lol! (Not married at 1881 census and surname Williams)

Marriages Dec 1884
Ingram Uriah Merthyr T 11a 885
Williams Jemina Merthyr T. 11a 885

I've only been looking in Wales!

Hang on. Look what I found. Jemima might not be illegitimate after all!

Name: John Weyman
Year of Registration: 1861
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Clun
County: Montgomeryshire, Shropshire
Volume: 6a

John Weyman 1861 Apr-May-Jun Clun Montgomeryshire, Shropshire

Mary Ann Weyman 1861 Apr-May-Jun Clun Montgomeryshire, Shropshire

Deb:)

P.S The only way you'll know for sure is to order both daughters birth certs.

Fiona

Fiona Report 21 Dec 2007 13:03

lol, I'm even more confused.

So Mary Wyman/Waymon/Weyman/Whyman was a widow in 1861 but Jemima was registered as Wyman in 1864??

A V-E-R-Y long pregnancy!

Has anyone had any luck finding Mary's marriage to John Stride?

Thanks,

Fiona
