Find Ancestors

In the census I can find my great grandmother and her 7 children my great grandfather is also there but I cannot read his name or place of birth, can anybody help ! My great grandmother is Hannah Perrin born1861/2 in Hyde Cheshire, some of her children were- Helen, Edward,Gertrude and Gordon. Help would be very much welcomed as I am quite new to all this. Husband Frank's age has changed rather drastically ... but he seems to be the same person: born in Victoria, Australia.

(Letting on about these little details surely does help when trying to find people in censuses. *You* may know where they all were in 1881, e.g., but giving a bit of guidance about places and personal details makes it easier to hunt for someone in a specific year, rather than having to hunt them down in other years first to get the details needed for hunting for them ...)

Hannah's husband was Frank W Perrin based on Kathyrn B thread and was born in Victoria-Australia

Those are what the ages look like on both census records.

If you examine the page on 1891 census - I believe it says his age is 35 !!

Examine the curves on all the 3's and 5's on the page - to me this is very clearly a 3 - the 3's have a slight loop joining the two curves, whereas this is not present on any of the 5's - also there is no line to the top which would be there if it were a 5.

Compare it particularly to the age of Sarah Jane Bateman - 32 - towards the bottom of the page.

Checking further, now his birth date is consistant at c 1856 - he is simple to trace back all census -

1861 - he is with his widdowed mother Sarah + siblings Frederick (7) and Louisa Elizabeth (2)

1871 - again with these siblings in Cheshire - his mother has now remarried to Peter Higginbottom and there are a further 2 little 'half-brothers'

His death is registered Ashton-u-Lyne March Q 1899.

From the above - there is a marriage March Q 1862 for Peter Higginbottom to Sarah Perrin - ref Ashton 8d 609.

Cheshire Bmd shows that Sarah's previous name was Sarah HUXTON.

Sarah Huxton married Josiah Perrin - June Q 1852 - ref Altrincham 8a 250

She must therefore have gone to Australia after this and returned before 1861.

P.S. - both Sarah and Josiah are easily found with their respective parents and siblings on 1851 census. - Haven't yet found any details on their travels to Australia.

Ships's passenger list for the 'Eagle I' shows the return details for:

Mrs Perrin (age 28) with infant (age 1)
also Fred aged 7 and Frank aged 4.

So - we know when they came back - June, 1859.

I will see if I can find out when they went - it has to be after August 1853 (when Frederick was christened), and before c 1856 (when Frank was born)
