Michelle

Thank you very much indeed for your help.
A real headache - like you say.
I have umpteen Censuses printed out and have stuck notes on all of them 'not likely', 'unlikely', 'born in wrong place', 'ages wrong', etc etc.

Going to see if I can find the marriage of Robert Henry Nash to Maria on 1871 - again she is not on census with her husband in 1881!!!

Many thanks indeed for your help
Regards
Jo

Michelle

Now you have found my problem!!

I also don't think the 1871 census for Elizabeth Nash born in Chew Magna is correct.

For the 1871 census in Bermondsey, I cannot see why she is down as born Bridgwater and Robert Nash, husband born Devizes, Wilts. Children look to be correct
Same problem in the 1861 census.
Thats what has got me confused and I cannot find any alternatives!!

Many thanks for your help
Best wishes
Jo

Yes, Henry Nash in 1838 looks promising, but if you look in bathbmd, you will find the mother's maiden name is LLOYD, so that one is out!! Sorry.

My children i.e. Robert Henry Nash and Elizabeth Mary Nash were born before registration.

Many thanks for your help

This looks like the birth of Henry Nash, no Elizabeth at the same time, and probably to late for your Robert Henry.

See why you getting confused! I would say to follow the census records that have Robert and mention the children-bridgewater,Somerset and Bath ones look most promising.Think the Chew Magna is a different person.

This Robert was a butler in both 1871 and 1881 census, Possible son of your Robert?
Also places of birth can vary alot census to census.Mistakes were made and often if the parents had been completing census when the kids came to do it themselves they often wrote place of birth as where they remember living last-which if they moved alot can be wrong!

I have an Elizabeth Mary Henley bapt 8 July 1805 Walcot, Bath, Somerset. Her parents were Henry and Elizabeth Henley.

She married 11 Feb 1832 at Walcot, Bath to Robert Underwood NASH.
Robert was born ca 1805 also Walcot, Bath, Somerset.

Now I know they had 2 children, who are Robert Henry Nash and Elizabeth Mary Nash - TWINS b ca 1836.

I have a possible 1841 Census for them HO107/970/3 Folio 48 Page 9 at Batchelers Lane, Walcot, Bath, Somerset.
Robert was 35 Ag Lab
Elizabeth 35
Edwin 8 (I do not know about him!)
Alfred 7 (I do not know about him!)
Henry 3 (This could be my Robert Henry Nash b ca 1836, a twin, but there is no Elizabeth Mary Nash. Possibly she died at birth)

I have been trying to follow this family through the Census - so 1851
so possible census HO107/1562 Fol 250 Page 44
48 Elim Street, Bermondsey. Just initials!! but they match the above. However, I did not think Robert was born in Devizes Wilts, and Elizabeth born in Bridgwater Somerset!!

There is a death on freebmd for Robert Nash 2852 June Q Bath 11 36, but looking on BATH BMD, this entry is not correct

Another 1851 Census which is a possibility is HO107/1938 Fol 2 Page 179 7 Stone, Silver Street, Elizabeth Nash Head Mar 45 Ag Lab wife b SOM Chew Magna (again not Bath)

At this stage, I am getting very confused and cannot seem to follow the family through, can ANYONE help please?

Many thanks
Jo
