No, no checks , information only as good as the couple gave. Now, assuming the marriage age was correct but there is no birth registrationfor a Frances Mary Anderson, i looked for other Frances Mary's born 1889 and there was one in Strood where she married , a FRANCES MARY MARTIN. Could this be the same person. I went back to 1891 census and she is with parents Harry Martin 28 and Frances Martin 24 but not on 1901. Checked deaths for parents between census 1891 and 1901 and there is a death of a Harry Martin end 1891 that matches his birth year (from census info) and a death of an Ada Frances Martin 1900 who matches Frances Martins birth year from census. Of course this is only an idea and could be nothing to do with your family just me playing detective. Perhaps raised with an Anderson family?

juma Report 31 Dec 2007 13:49

The 1901 census family with Thomas H and Elizabeth as parents does not tally with 1891 info.

Also two children aged 19 in the same household in 1901 but not twins, Edward and Frances? Could she have been born under another surname and 'taken in' by the Andersons.

Thats a brilliant bit of work Bernadette - Id certainly be thinking about it.

Douglas, what did she name the children? Do the names tie in at all with the Norwegian sailors family?

The following birth record may well be in keeping with the 1881 Census result I forwarded. "Elfrida" being a Norwegian name and may well have been dropped

Name: Elfrida Frances M Anderson
Year of Registration: 1899
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Eastry
County: Kent
Volume: 2a

if she gave the incorect age could she be hiding that she was a b***sted child if so is ther a way of finding out?

juma

juma Report 31 Dec 2007 12:59

The information on the bill is only as good as the informant told him. You cannot assume it to be concrete evidence. I have searched for a birth but there is none for the year you gave. If she gave an incorrect age on her marriage cert as she was older than her husband she could have carried this thro.

The following looks promising;
On the original the Frances H could be a France M and the father John is listed as a seaman from Norway. If you would like a copy of the census please email me privately with your email address
