Find Ancestors

G'day every one,
I have a copy of my great-grandparents marriage certificate, my great grand parents were Thomas Jones and Annie / Hannah/ Anna Mary Taylor, my problem is that Annie's parents are listed as Thomas Taylor and Emma Uplinig, the certificate is hand written and I can find nothing on Uplinig, my great grand parents were married in Brisbane Australia. Annie was born in Manchester Lancashire, apparently her parents did not emigrate to Australia can any one help

When was Annie born? You could get a copy of her birth certificate to confirm Emmas maiden name.

Checking on FreeBMD for the name Uplinig brings no results, so I would assume it was badly written. Her age etc would certainly help check her parents marraige

Sorry for not replying earlier, but was rather late last night when I posted, Annie was 27 in 1878 according to the marriage certificate,that would have her birth in 1851 in Manchester.

I tried to scan something once before and ended up sending a copy by snail mail. All the other names are legible except for the mothers maiden name, every one who looks at it says Uplinig

which leaves the option she's not english?and they didn't marry here? if at all?

Could the name also be an Li unstead of a U?

no it definately looks like a "U"
I don't think the Thomas Uplin you found is connected - age wise
how would I find a marriage of Thomas Taylor and Emma

ok the numbers are the GRO reference numbers

You can goto http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ and order the birth certs. As you know her fathers name and her mothers first name you can actually specify this data when ordering the cert. you can order any cert with the specific detail that the fathers name must be Thomas Taylor and the mothers name of Emma. They make a small charge for checking other births for the right data also. A very handy tool....

You will hopefully end up with one cert and the correct data!
