I am looking for the marriage of Jean Stevenson to John McLinden in Denver, Colorado, USA. (I am not quite sure if John was his first name) She was born in 1902 in Glasgow and died in 1985 in Denver, Colorado, USA. She married someone called McLinden in Denver possibly around 1922ish. I would appreciate any help in finding the marriage please.

Many thanks,
Kathy

Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much for you help - that is definitely them and more information than I expected.. Much appreciated.

Jeanie was taken to the States by a family friend and there is a mystery surrounding it. Some say she was kidnapped, but I believe she was given away due to family poverty at the time and taken by someone who emigrated to the States..

From the information you have found, am I right in thinking that she probably arrived by boat in 1910.

Kathy

Hi Jim,

That is him again (William McLinden) with his family before he married my husband's aunt. It seems she arrived in 1910 but the family who she lived with were not named Stevenson.

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Thank you again, Jim, you're a star! It looks like his father (Peter) was Irish.

Could I ask if there is any sign of Jeanie Stevenson who immigrated to the USA in about 1910? She was born in 1902 in Scotland, Glasgow.

Sorry Kathy
But if you are correct then she may be under a different surname

Katwin

Many thanks for looking anyway, Jim. Really kind of you. I think you are right and she could be under the surname of the people who took her at that time.

That is fantastic, Jim!!! So the people she was with were either called English or Walker. I'll see if I can find out if the names ring a bell with anyone in Glasgow

Hi Jim, I hope you are still there. I just found out the family who took Jean Stevenson to the USA were called McCrossan. She may well have been taken there under their name. If its not too much trouble, could you look for a Jean McCrossan who arrived in 1910 +/-.

Many thanks,

Kathy

Thanks a million, Jim, for all your searching and effort in finding this valuable information!!! It is so much appreciated.

It seems my husband's aunt was well looked after by the McCrossans, and we did meet her in Denver before she died, although nothing was mentioned about this at that time as we thought it was all a bit sensitive.

Big hug,
Kathy

On the Ellis Island site there's Jane McCrossan, 37, married with Jeanie McCrossan, 8. They're from Uddington, Scotland. Nearest relative is sister Maggie Knight, 408 Galbraith St., Marghill? They're heading for Denver, Colorado to meet husband and father Chas. Mccrossan. It says Jane was born Straban, Ireland and Jeanie Old Kirkpatrick, Scotland.
They arrived in New York Sep.25, 1910.
Charles had arrived May 22, 1910.

Hi Margaret,

Many thanks for that additional information - it is much appreciated. I was wondering why the husband was not with them on the ship to New York.

Sorry to be a pest - I have found the Ellis Island site and the two women, but how do I get the information about the husband and father-in-law they were going to meet already in Denver?

Regards,
Kathy

When you get the name on Ellis Island click on "ship manifest". You might have to go to the previous or next page to find the page with the names. Make note of the line number and check the previous or next page to find extra info.(I say prevoius or next because the pages are never in the same order)
Good luck,
Margaret
