Hi everyone

Been searching for more info since January, I'm still no nearer finding Ellens father, I know for definate her fathers name was William and that he was a flannel mill worker, I've managed to contact a long lost reli, a grand daughter of Ellen or nanny Nellie as she called her, Ellen and George did not get married until Ellens mother died because she did not want Ellen to marry. So all of the children were born out of wedlock and when searching records they turn up as Roberts or Farringtons, George Farrington was not the father of William

If I did get the birth certificate of a Ellen Roberts born in the area how do I know its the right one?

I've found a marriage for a George Farrington in Wrexham 1903 4 11b 470, but no Ellen Roberts, is it possible that she was just missed off the page? Their younger daughter Blodwen has the surname Farrington when she was married.

Hi everyone

traced George Farringtons parents and siblings, George Farrington 1940 b Marylebone, married Jane Lewis 1942 b Trefonen, this George Farrington unfortunately spent most of his younger life living with uncle and aunts so cannot go back much further here, did a bit of detective work and found ?? Ellen Roberts parents Robert and Harriet Price but need to delve further, like Yvonne says ancestors very secretive,

It has just occurred to me that I must have suffered yet another, hopefully premature senior moment,at the Centre earlier today.I checked the marriage in 1917,and I only took note of George Farrington's Father, and not Ellen Roberts's!I'll have to try again Tuesday now.

At long last Yvonne, the Weather has relented, and I was able to go today to the Rhosymedre Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS.However whether you will be any the wiser is debateable. The Father listed of the George Farrington who married at Wrexham St Giles in 1903,is given as George. Also the Father's name of the George Farrington who married at St Collen's Llangollen in 1917,is also given as George!

It's like a modern-day paternity declaration and child support order, for the child of an unmarried woman, as I understand it.

I think it was something like how it has been in more modern days, too -- the woman herself may have wanted nothing to do with the man (maybe even in the very first place before getting pregnant), but the people responsible for public assistance insisted that he pay up.

Google, people!! Even if you just scan down the search results list, you'll get a feel for it.

Yvonne, IF Ellen got a bastardy order on the father of grandad - perhaps William could guide you on the likelihood of that document being available.

lots of secrecey in this family regarding ancestors, only one souce left in family, my uncle and his memory is fading and confused.
my cousin visited llangollen recently to search ellen and george, we know our grandfather was born out of wedlock but the siblings? now thats the problem.

William Report 8 Jan 2008 10:15

Its no problem at all Yvonne, and it doesn't really take that much time anyway! Its really a matter of knowing where to search for the particular info.As far as the Centre today is concerned, whilst hoping that this rain stops so I can take the ten minutes or so walk to the Centre,I would have been going there anyway on my own research.

Yes William, I kind of figured that the one born 1848 who died 1904 wasn't the one whom Ellen married in 1917. ;)

I do suspect the one I see in the 1901 census was, though. Not really seeing that one in 1881, e.g., so having the father's name for the marriage to Ellen will be good! Oh, yes, I see -- you can check the father's name for that other one too -- good show!
