Hello Jo,

This thread is over 18 months old now and it is doubtful that Sheila is still expecting any replies. You can try clicking on her name and sending your message that way. If she still has the same email address, she will be notified.

If you are looking for connections on this site, the best thing to do is to put the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above (in the top dark green bar) to see if anyone else has them in their tree.

If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner.

Meanwhile, if you would like help with your own research, then why not start a thread of your own - using any useful information from this thread as background knowledge. There are a lot of members willing to help you.

Regards. Cx.

I am researching the Georges as well. - the line descending from Henry Frederick George who ended up in Victoria.

Thanks Janey and Kuncinta,
Sorry I did not understand about staying on a link but have had it explained to me now. I now have to look further to both Piedgeon or Pidgeon, or even pigeon as his mother or father or the George side. I do know that his Son Edward was known as Darky George which could indicate that he was dark skinned perhaps a throw back from Henry's past relatives. Perhaps he was born abroad and was brought into this countryat the docks at Limehouse in London where he lived, according to my Uncle, for some time.

Probably. I've seen other instances where adult baptism precedes a marriage.

JaneyCanuck Report 27 Apr 2010 00:11

Huh!

My gr-grfather's brother was baptised as an adult, but that was obviously in contemplation of death. He died a few weeks later of tuberculosis. He'd managed to get married about 2 years before without being baptised - or at least not CofE, anyway.

Henry was baptised 8 to 10 months before he married. I wonder whether that was the impetus?

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 26 Apr 2010 23:55

Henry was baptised as an adult.

Name: Henry Pidgeon George
Record Type: Baptism
Date: 18 Mar 1842
Mother's Name: George
Parish: St John at Hackney
Borough: Hackney
County: Middlesex
Source Citation: London Metropolitan Archives, Saint John At Hackney, Hackney, Register of baptisms, P79/JN1, Item 035.

The register notes it was an adult baptism, details of parents are 'not known'. occupation (of parents) not known. Surname given as George. His abode is given as Dalston. A note says 'reported born Dec 26th 1819'.

With no father's name on his marriage certificate and a surname for a middle name, there is a very good chance his parents were not married -- his mother was Ms. George and his father was Mr. Pidgeon. That is a common naming pattern.

Thank you all for your help especially Yvonne who contacted me direct. I am sorry that I was not responsive enough at the time but I was having a lot of trouble accessing on Genes. I have now updated to Gold with them and am finding it easier. I have the marriage certificate of Henry Pidgeon George and Sarah Rimes but his fathers name and surname are not on it .Also he and Sarah both resided at the same address when they married. I now have to go to another site as Genes does not show birth records before 1837 I presume I might have to go to the parish records.
Once again thanks to you all.

Good luck to Yvonne. Sheila sure didn't have much to say to Heather for all the work she did for her.

Yvonne

I should send Sheila a pm (personal message) ........ she doesn't appear to have returned to the thread.

just click on her name and type the message in the box.

GR will then send her an email to say that there is a pm wating for her.

You're more likely to get a response from her that way!!

Hello Sheila
I hope you are still searching for Henry Pidgeon George. I am descended from his son, Henry Frederick George, who of course was a brother to your Edward. Henry Frederick George was the son who immigrated to Australia.

If you would like to know more about the family as I would, I will only be to pleased to swap inofrmation.

I have to say I was pretty chuffed with finding all that stuff and happy to spend ages looking for it, but you will have to spend some money to get certificates in this research. As Kath said, you would have the fathers names and occupations on that certificate and the witnesses - all clues to the previous generation.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 24 Jan 2008 22:55

A "thanks ... but". Nothing like it.

Sheila, did you see what Heather gave you?

Any idea of who their parents were? Well, not offhand ... but if you ORDER THEIR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, you will get their fathers' names.

What Heather gave you two weeks ago:

Marriages Dec 1842

DOLBEY Joseph Hackney 3 111
>>>>>GEORGE Henry Pidgeon Hackney 3 111
Hook James Hackney 3 111
LAST Abi Hackney 3 111
Murray George Hackney 3 111
>>>>>>Rimes Sarah Hackney 3 111
Sayers Rebecca Hackney 3 111
SMITH Mary Hackney 3 111

To help you out, this is the info for ordering the certificate.

Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Year: 1842
Name: GEORGE Henry Pidgeon
District: Hackney
Volume: 3
Page: 111

If you'd ordered it then, you'd know by now.

Once you know the fathers' names, you *might* be able to identify them in the 1841 census if they're in their parents' households.

Sheila -- have you tried the Australian phone directory on line?

http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/initResSearch.do

There is a load o' George listings in Victoria, but only 5 in Melbourne itself. If you have any idea of first names, you might be able to narrow the search results.
