Thank you Mary. I wonder if she was a Baley before she married a Fields and married a second time in her maiden name? I suppose that's a possibility.

FreeBMD doesn't seem to be working at the moment, so it's hard to find the marriages.

The only marriage for a Matthew Wright to an Alice I can seen on Ancestry at about the right time and place is a marriage in Scarborough in 1878 to an Alice Baley.

Thank you everyone, you are absolutely brilliant.

I don't KNOW the name of Annie's mother but was going on the info I had actually found on 1881 census, as above and it looks like NANCY. I am sorry I was looking in the wrong place when I typed out my original request. To reiterate, the info on 1881 census re Annie Hatton is all I have.

Thank you everyone.

The marriage cert would give you both their fathers' names. How do you know Annie's mother's name was Mary?

Margaret

Margaret Report 20 Jan 2008 16:28

I have a Thomas Fields b. Sept 1865 Scarborough who married Annie Hatton March 1885 Scarborough. I have them both on 1891 census with children Thomas 8, and Elizabeth 5. They had another son Bryan reg. June 1891. By Mar 1892 Thomas had died aged 27. Thomas was a Fireman for NE Railways.

This is the only information I have on them. I was hoping to go back to 1881/1871 census to establish both Thomas and Annie's parents, but this is where I have come upstuck.

All I can find is:

1881 census: 26 Cooks Row, Scarborough

John Tate - age 40 - Fishmonger - b. Scarborough
Mary Tate - age 49 - wife - b. Scarborough
Mary J. Hatton - age 23 - daughter b. Hull
Annie M. Hatton - age 17 - b. Scarborough Servant

I am assuming from this that Mary, Annie's mother, was widowed and remarried which of course doesn't help me find her father.

As for Thomas b. 1865 Scarborough, I cannot locate him on 1881 when he would have been 15/16 and hopefully living with parents whose names I really need to find.

Could anyone trace either of these for me or spot a lead which would help as I have spent ages looking but have not come up with anything.

Thank you.

SORRY - Annie's mother in above information should read NANCY.
