I would think the 1901 that Angela found could be classed as a childrens home.

Thanks for that jim, i'v checked her birth cert and she was definitely born in nantwich workhouse. I know she did at sometime end up living in north shields where she met my grandad. The plot thickens lol.

Hi Wendy

It's your cousin Gillian here!

I've had a look at www.hiddenlives.org.uk which has info about the children's home Jim mentions.

There is a photo of it on the website. I think this could well be where Nana was. However, I cant find her amongst the records that are available on the site - maybe I'm not using the right key word to search.

Does Jim know where we could get more information? It's great to get this clue, though!

Hi Wendy and Gillian
All I know is from Google and then I only had a quick look.
You may find there is a family history society for Northumberland or you can ask on here if anyone knows where the archives are.
I would also try and trace any records for Stockton, she could easily have been in both.

Hope you find them Jim

On the description of the enumeration district for Northumberland Village Homes it says that it is a Home for Destitute Girls.

The archives for Northumberland are at Woodhorn, Ashington.

This is the email address for archive enquiries:- [email protected]
