Correct birth certificate?

I have recently received a birth certificate but not sure if it is the correct one, after a second opinion.

My grandfather James William McDonald died in 1990, I know he was definately born 11th July 1912. I have marriage details for 1931 saying his father was John James Mcdonald also a witness. He died in 1956 as John James Mcdonald and also known as John James Mcdonough, he is on death register twice.

I know my grandfather was born in England but the only thing I could find was James William MACdonald on birth index. The certificate has the same birth date but fathers name is James and mothes name is Annie, maiden name Downes and I can't find a marriage for them. No one in my family can confirm any names with regards to John and Annie other than that John was originally McDonough from Ireland.

Any thoughts.

Sometimes if people had two names they would use either of them as first names. Maybe he was registered as John James but known as James.

The same exact birth date makes it look a likely one.

Did your grandfather have any siblings? if so it might be worth tracing a birth of one of them.

I have been told he had a sister Lydia and a brother Tom, I have found a Lydia MacDonald born in Louth but no Tom/Thomas.

Well I think it just might be worth buying the birth certificate for Lydia and see if it matches parents for your grandfather.

Perhaps Thomas was the second name of the brother?
