Julie,seems like he has done what a lot of illegitimate people do - made up a dad for the wedding cert - it may be worth you having a look to see if any orders exist re payments to his mum from the dad. Also, the Cornish were always fond of using surnames as middle names, take it he hasnt got a middle name at all? |

Just an observance, but fathers always seem to be called "John" on the marriage cert when no father is listed on the birth cert. |

And it appears grandad is an "engineer" as the father John is shown to be on the cert. |

I've a couple of marriage certs for base children & both the mother's husband's forename is used with the bride/groom's surname |

My late father-in-law was a vicar with a soft heart who was sad that he was supposed to write illegitimate or even bastard in the marriage registers if someone didn't know their father. |
