It is definitely the Latin spelling. There were periods when registrars used Latin spellings. My Charles became Carolus, and son of Charles is Caroli. Daughter of Charles was probably Carola.

I have Cuthbertus in my family tree

The Latin name is often seen in parish records for those days, and into the 18th century.


so you might also see Jacobus instead of Jacob, or Josephus, etc

I would presume it's the Latin name for Cuthbert. Back then the Latin name was often used at christenings.

I have an ancestor born about 1660, with the christian name " CUTHBORTUS" Ihave searched name meaning sights,but none know this name, only cuthbert. Any body know where i can search etc please.
