How can i find more information about my g g g g grandparents?

I have them on the 1851 census and I have bought their marriage cert.

The problem is that they are called Evan and Mary Jones and those are such common names i'm a little stuck.
On the cert Evan Jones is 29 and a widower,
Mary Jones is 32 and a spinster.

I did try to do some research at the library today but some mean man made my 4yr old daughter cry so I had to leave!

Any advise on how I can find any more info on them or how to find them on the 1841?

Thanks,

Clair.

Evan was a quarryman (on the 1851 census he's a slate quarryman) and they married on 29 March 1851 in the Capel Sardis (?) in Llanfihangel Y Pennant, Merionethshire.

Because the 1841 doesn't give relationship to head I was struggling in the library when looking for them.

Mary's father's name was William Jones occ labourer.
On the cert Mary is 32, Evan is 29.

From the 1851 census

William Jones 58 Ag Lab Mallwyd
Ellen Jones 66 Llanfihangel
Evan Jones 29 Slate Quarryman Dolgelley
Mary Jones 32 Llangryn

From the cert Evan Jones's father was also called Evan Jones.

Hi Hazel,

No, I don't think that's them. Evan Jones Snr was a labourer rather than a miner - and I think the family were based in Merioneth rather than Anglesey.

Thanks for looking for me though.

I knew this Jones lot were going to be difficult! So far I have 5 or 6 seperate Jones families to look for.

I don't think that is them Hazel,as this is Angelsey, and not Merioneth.I used to live in Merioneth and knew the village well. There is an interesting story about a Mary Jones?? who walked 25 miles to Bala to buy a bible in Welsh, and this was the start of the bible society.
See if you can google it,and not sure of the name of the chapel, but there were lots of chapels,as rich families wanted their own so they could sit in the front pew.
The village your Mary is from is Llanegryn.

Addresses on the cert -

Evan - Ty yn Capel, Aberllyfeni, Talyllyn

Mary - Dolgoed, Talyllyn.

Don't know if that helps?

Alice, yes, that's them in 1861. His wife Mary and children Evan, Mary and William were living in Penybank, Dolgelly and Evan himself was working in the Gaol.

any ideas how i could find who Evan Jones was married to previously to Mary Jones?

I looked on free bmd but obviously there were loads of marriages for Evan Jones in Dolgelly between 1839-1850!

I just don't know how to progress with this lot.
