i am trying to trace john wilson carmichael who was a local artist(newcastle area) who is related to me . I thought that it would be quite easy but I am having no luck

Googling - John Wilson Carmichael+Newcastle brings up lots of info about a John Wilson Carmichael, not sure if it's the John your searching for though ?.

(b Newcastle, 1800; d Scarborough, 1868) British painter. John Wilson Carmichael was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on January 8, 1800. He was the son of a ship's carpenter and was apprenticed to a ship builder.

He is the john wilson carmichael the newcastle painter he was born in newcastle in 1799 I cant find him on any census to trace his family.

He shows in a couple of trees on Ancestry.

Parents William Carmichael and Mary - Mars or Johnson.

There are a couple of censuses the 1851 and 1861 which show a John Carmichael born in that time and place - a watchmaker. Did he earn his living from painting or was it a hobby?
