This is his birth record?

Births Sep 1882 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clayson George Northampton 3b 68

what is confusing?

You could purchase the cert from GRO

If there is no father named on the birth cert you cannot go further back with that line.

I know when I saw my gt grandmothers marriage cert and she named an Edward Wilkinson as her father...took me ages to trace her and then find she had been illigitimate and Edward Wilkinson was just a made up name

I have seen that one Jax thank you but then it gets confusing when you check grandads birth record on line. Thats where I get stuck and need help. I suppose the easiest way is to go to Northampton and check through the records myself.

Hi Jax

I have often wondered if that was the case but could never be sure..
I really appreciate your help.

Your gt grandmother was not married when your grandfather was born so he was registered as Clayson, but he obviously took his step fathers name when he married and on later census's.

If there is a C.Clayson named as his father it is possably a made up name

The George Clayson Ives is my grandad and the Joseph Ives is my late father although he was born in 1910.
Grandad was born George Clayson. His mum Elizabeth came from Wrexham with her siblings Samuel and harriet . All I know about his birth father is that his name was probably Charles Clayson.
That is where I am stuck . Its taken me years to get this far.
Both sides of my late mother's family I have traced back to the early 1700's and the Ives to the late 1700's.
But now I'm trying to research my grandads birth fathers family.
All the help your giving me is greatly appreciated.

Malc :0))

I am really confused! What are your grandparents' names? Who is C. Clayson??
Jan

Malc /GG and Jackie

Malc /GG and Jackie Report 3 Jan 2012 00:12

No thats not them. The Elizabeth Clayson (his mum) later went on to marry Thomas Ives. But I cannot find a death of a C Clayson in the right period.
In the 1901 census they are in northampton and grandad was a groom. Think it might have been Kingsthorpe.

Think that samuel could be Elizabeths brother. It looks about right.

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 3 Jan 2012 00:02

You need to say what info you have for certain - birth of one of their children for example..

Do you have the MC?

If so, could you please give the details with the hope that we can either find them on Census, or alternatively, their birth registrations.

All of the details help with the research
