On my mum and dad's 1949 marriage certificate, it states that my mum was "formerly the wife of Norman White from whom she obtained a divorce"
I can find no record of this marriage in BDM records. Why might this be? and what can I do now? Is there any way I can find out about this marriage.

Where have you actually looked for the marraige?
do you have any idea where Geographically it might have taken place?
or when?
Any children from the marriage?
do you know your mothers maiden name?

Your mums father should be listed on the marriage cert so his surname will be her maiden name

i found ny mums detail on free bmd.org.uk

it gave her married name and then said formaly and gave her maiden namethis was on the marrage cert to my dad
