I have a 1871 census but I cannot read what his occupation is. Is there anyone willing to look it up and tell me what they think it is? Thanks.

1871 Census RG10; Piece: 2480; Folio: 13; Page: 20; GSU roll: 835194.
Name of Joseph Baker b 1821 Sedgeley. Halfway down page.

I think it looks like Tactor or Factor. Don't know what it could mean. I was hoping to find his occupation was Argur Maker.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks very much in advance, for taking the time to look and help.

Regards Lou

It is almost certainly FACTOR.

Factor (agent), a person who acts for another, notably a mercantile and/or colonial agent. In modern terms this might be a company representative.

Hi Jonesey,

Many thanks for that, I would never have guess it to be an agent so that's a very useful snippet of info. Thanks.

Do you think it's possible he changed occupation from making Argur's to being an agent??/
