Well i think that record would be too late to be the one im looking for as Jane and George Thomson had a son in 1845 so my guess is the Jane/Jean and George that im looking for would have been born around 1810 - 1820 ish.

This is leading me to think that the Marriage of Jean and George in 1829 that you found is more and more likely to be the match. It does mean that there were 16 years of marriage before they had their first child, if George was in fact their first...

farquharson thomson-a son born 20 may 1867,in dundee ,angus.
parent's george thomson & jane newman,

probobly of no use but how strange to name your child farquharson & the mother being called jane & dad george thomson.

Their are also members on GR with names George Thomson, Jean Farquharson, Jane Farquharson and Helen Farquharson in their trees all born Scotland in the early to mid 1800's

Use the search all trees option in the search field at the to of this page, you can then contact them but bear in mind not all members with trees on GR are still active

Jean and Jane are very similar i suppose and the Angus area would match up with the birth of their possible son in Lochee Angus. Now i just need to find some further details to be able to find George's parentage, this is harder than i thought ;)

Civil registration in Scotland didn't start until 1855 so I would think the records on Familysearch are your best bet.

Im stuck again trying to find any further information on the parents of Charles Catheart Thomson/Thompson. I have a George Thomson and Jane Farquharson but i cannot find any marriage details for them or even any birth details. How do you find out such specifics to be able to dig deeper? The other sites are quite useful but ive noticed that they often are incomplete. If it helps, im willing to allow access to my tree to anyone willing to help me.

Any assistance/advice you could provide would be most apreciated
Thanks.

Scrap that, i can now see the free records as per your link but am i right in thinking the Scottish records are not available via here or Ancestry? I just havent a clue how youve all been able to find out so much.

Sharon

Sharon Report 25 Aug 2012 22:24

May i ask, how are you finding the information out for the Scottish records? Im on Ancestry but cannot seem to view anything for free which is strange.
