I have just received the marriage cert of Edward Scallon and Alice Cowan 3 may 1860 and Edwards father is STEPHEN - farmer.
Even more confusing to sort out as the 3 people i started with as cousins all now have a father named STEPHEN, now i am left to wonder if they were brothers???

Hello, No idea at all as the only info i have is their names on pice of paper given to me years ago. I do have an Edward marrying an Annie Surtees but they seem to come from a different place> Will just leave this brewing for a while i think. Thanks for your reply.

Did they stay in Ireland? If they had children, when and where was the first born?

(the spouses are not connected up in the Irish marriage records at familysearch, you have to find one and look for the other entry that matches the volume and page numbers)

do you have these names from a child's birth certificate? I couldn't see a John and Ann to fit in the English censuses.

Anyone able to find me a possible marriage for John Scallon to Annie Surtees please, both born Ireland around 1835. I am wanting to get a marriage cert to see who Johns father is?

I have just received the marriage cert for Stephen Scallon and Ellen O'Neil, father of Stephen is STEPHEN Scallon -a farmer! and father of Ellen is Bernard a Tailor.
They married 21st July 1863, St Marys Catholic Church, Newcastle upon Tyne.

How do you know they were cousins if you don't know the identities of their fathers?

You can't get certs for such early births....................

Thank so much for all your information, I have gathered quite a bit of this also. Within this family so many of the christian names are the same! which makes it confusing.
Is there any way of me finding out where in Ireland John and Stephen came from without the need to buy birth certs? Or could i assume they are from the same area as Edward as they are cousins. I do not know who their fathers are though.
