I will write to the clubs as you suggested Jacqueline.

John's 1st wife was Elizabeth ( Bessie ) Blair Macreadie, d.o.b. 1877.
I have their marriage certificate from Scotlandspeople.
They were married in 1902 in Patrick, Glasgow .

Her parents are James Marshall Macreadie and Mary nee Adam.
Her address looks like 7, White Street, Partick and Johns was 703, Govan Road.
John's occupation was professional footballer .

Bessie is on the 1901 scottish census living in Norse Road, Renfrew with her brother Alfred d.o.b. 1883.

I have had a look on SP for any Wilkie children born after 1902 in Partick but as yet nothing coming up for them.

John married my great aunt Leah Moore in 1918 in Kelvin his address then was 32, Clyde Street, Anderston . His occupation then was shipyard labourer.

I am just curious really if there are any children to Bessie and John and when Bessie died ,as I have said I just cannot find her death in Scotland.

In all honesty, Jean, I can't imagine that messages on websites will prove fruitful.

Better to write to the club(s)

BTW, you've given little or no info about his wife..................or any indication of any children

Jacqueline,
Thank you for the information.
I have left messages on the football websites I have found for john but as yet there have been no replies, he seems to have moved around a lot and played for several clubs .
As for his 1st wife, no I can't find her on the 1911 census either for England or Scotland and can't find her death on Scotlandspeople using her married name or maiden name.

The census info found so far indicates a birth earlier than you have suggested.......................

Reading through this thread, I see that he married in Scotland in 1902, and died there in 1922

No mention has been made of whether his wife has been found in 1911, or if there were any offspring.

Still looking for John in the 1901 census .

There is a John Wilkie living in Charlton Lancashire in 1901, I wonder if someone could take a look at that census and tell me if it shows him as a proffesional footballer.
I have found a small newspaper article from 1901 showing a John Wilkie playing for Preston North end which I am told is in Lancashire.

Thank you

1896-97 Second Division Champions

The close season saw the usual search for new players. There were six new professionals at the club for the start of the season, notably James Auchincloss who was brought in from Arthurlie to replace R.Ferguson at fullback. Ferguson had moved to Morton. James Logan, formerly of Linthouse and Tottenham Hotspur, was also signed, from Parkhead, as forward cover, needed since John Campbellā€™s departure to Blackburn (where he joined John Wilkie).

From other googled source

John Wilkie made a scoring debut for Blackburn Rovers on 23/11/1895
