I can't get any further back if I can't find the marriage. Elizabeth Kendal was born in Carlisle in 1826 so if I could get the birth baptism or her marriage it would help. They were in the workhouse in 1852 when the twins were born.

I have tried Elizabeth Elliot but can't find any more children born to her parents or another marriage.

Have you looked for a marriage for your couple much later? Sometimes people married a great many years after their children were born for all sorts of reasons. I have looked myself using name variants and I can't find a marriage either.

Found it. The address they were living at when John was born was Padden Beck Carlisle. Mother Elizabeth Davidson formerly Kendale. He was baptised 1850 showing Boothby as the address

Thanks, yes I have them living in Preston. I think John went to live with another Davidson for a while but I don't know why. I am looking for Johns birth cert just now. I seem to remember that Elizabeth Kendal was named as his mother
