I am cross with myself that I got rid of my 1881 census discs
as I could have searched them and found the answer to my
request who lived at the addresses I have for 1891 census.
Looks like I am not going to find the family in the 1881 census
online.
Regards Irene

Irene Report 18 Oct 2015 10:33

yes that's the Gill children.
Looks like the mother and John Hadley
got together and went on to have their
own children.
Many thanks for looking for me.

Sarah Hobbs married Thomas James Gill in 1852 then in
1861 you find her lodging with John Hadley with her 3 Gill
children. I have the birth certs of John Hadley 1864 and
Albert Arthur 1870 which confirm that Sarah Hobbs/Gill is
their mother. I have not found a marriage for Sarah and John
Hadley.
Many thanks for your help. Irene

Still no luck Irene. Can I just ask what surname Sarah & her children had before she married John Hadley? When did they marry? Just to double-check no mix-ups with name 1881. Seems silly perhaps, but you never know - stranger things have happened!

Irene

Irene Report 17 Oct 2015 18:53

Hobbs was Sarah's maiden name so could
well be another son.
Looks like Turner Street.
Many thanks Irene

Father's name: John Hadley
Mother's name: Sarah Hadley
Parish or Poor Law Union: Stepney St Philip

Just to absolutely rule them out, I have found the Eardly family 1891.

brummiejan Report 17 Oct 2015 17:41

The Sarah in 1881 above is a needlewoman, which might match as Sarah 1871 is a seamstress. But the rest is too different I think/

Irene

Irene Report 17 Oct 2015 17:39

No I am sure that is not them but a good find.
Thank you anyway.

So still in the Stepney area (John's Gardens could have been anywhere) but John Senior now a Dock Labourer, so not necessarily looking for a Gun Smith aback in 1881
