It's good to know they were obeying the 14th Rule for Ancestors:

"If thy wife shall die before you, thou may only be wed again to a woman with the same given name."

Ooops indeed !
I presume it was the husband who gave the information......

Back in 1800s, one of my folk married 2 Sarahs. A bit confusing working out the children until GRO records came up trumps with maiden names.

I sometimes wonder how 2nd wives were viewed and treated.
Looking round a graveyard for my great grandfather, I was surprised to find that he had been buried with his 1st wife, although his 2nd wife was alive and survived him by several years :-S

Just found an entry on 1939 Register where the DoB of the (second) wife is given as that of the (deceased) first wife.

Both named Elizabeth...........so at least he wouldn't have called her by the wrong name :-0 :-0
