Legal adoptions didnt start til 1927. Before that it was a private arrangement and the baby would just be handed over, without any paperwork. A rare exception to this would be an arrangement through a Solicitor, but this would only be for (probably) wealthy people. It would be sheer luck if you found anything in writing. can anyone tell me how to find out about an adoption that would have taken place about 1882. i dont know where to start looking so any help please , kathryn |
