if you take down all the reference numbers at the side and take down the year and quarter that it is in then all you have to do is either email them what you want or you can phone them it normally takes about 5 working days

Hi Jennifer, If you have found the person on the census, you then need to find the relevant event (BMD) on the index if you have not already have if (you say you have the vol and page number already). You can order the certificate using the vol and page number, name and district and year/quarter from the GRO online here:- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Certs cost £7 if you supply the vol and page ref.

Cannot see one Q3 1900, again another in Holyhead, but not one in Bala. Are you sure he was born in Bala district? Where have you got that information from?

I can't see a Robert Owen Jones birth in any qtr. of 1900 in Bala either. Can you check again? Kath. x

Hi keith Looks like i need to start looking again... you see i'm such a beginner. The problem with my search is i do nor really have any real dates to go by so i am having to use estimations from my mother's birth and that of her parents age at the time (approx) and the place and names. And there are so many Robert Jones out there! Thanks to you for trying though.

Jennifer

Jennifer Report 23 Mar 2007 00:07

And to you Kathleen.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 23 Mar 2007 00:10

But where did you get the reference numbers for the Bala birth from? Kath. x

Jennifer, you need to find the marriage for your mothers parents, then get the certificate to find their ages at marriage, there is not easy way to get round this. Was your mother the first born or are there elder siblings? This may give you a starting point from where to look.

Hi Keith My mother was the youngest of 6 sisters. Her mother had her in her mid forties in 1943. I est her DOB as 1898-1900ish, what do you think. No idea whatsoever about the date of marrige to her parents. So i guess i have my work cut out for me but i am noting all the advice given. With thanks again
