Thanks Shirley, I thought it might be Galway but I was thrown a little by the 'funny' 'a' next to the 'y'. I didn't want to put Galway down in my query just in case it caused people to think exactly the same. As I'm thinking of going across to Ireland I didn't want to end up in the wrong county. As for his occupation I couldn't for the life of me think what kind of journeyman. Many thanks Kevin

Good day everyone I'm after some help deciphering some handwriting on my ggfathers census return, as to where he was born and what his occupation was Info: Patrick Foy age 49 Parish Rawtenstall Address 6 Back Bank St Census return 1901 Ref. RG13/3850 I know and can make out he came from Ireland but although I have an idea roughly the county I'd like second opinions if possible, also as to his occupation, any help appreciated. Thanks Kevin
