how are you supposed to do a family tree with very lil info |

You work from what information you have. Ask everyone living what they know and remember and collect certificates of births, marriages and deaths that anyone in the family has. What have you got? Do you have your parents marriage certificate? Then you will have your grandfathers names on that cert, you work backwards looking for people until you get before 1901 and then you use the census we have available back to 1841 then before 1837 you use parish records. You will have to buy certificates along the way to verify the information. You buy certs for £7 from the GRO online. But tell us what you have first. |

You start with what you know. So e.g.your parents names, then order their marriage certificate to find out their fathers names and occupations, and hopefully the bride and grooms ages. Your birth certificate will tell you your mothers maiden name. Then you just work your way back, ordering their birth certificates etc until you get to the latest census of 1901 then you can start looking on there. |

Did your mums parents marry in england/wales? or was it over in ireland |
|||
|
Heather | Report | 8 Mar 2007 16:20 |
Well, there is a separate Records Office for Ireland - put 'Irish' in the search box at the top of this page to bring up advice on searching for Irish ancestors. So did your mum marry your dad? Is mum or dad alive to help you? If they married you can buy their marriage certificate to find out who their fathers were. OK, you already have mums dad - when you say they originated in Ireland - was mum Irish? Were your grandparents Irish - or are we talking much further back? |

Where was your mum born, England or Ireland? Do you know when her parents were married and whether it was in England or Ireland? If it was over here, tells us your grandparent's names (from your mum's birth certificate). When (approximately) was their eldest child born and where? Sam x |

Do you know their first names? Your mums birth certificate should tell you her mums maiden name as well. |
