Thanks for looking Paul but none of them are her as her father is John. I'm sure the family on the 1851 census of John Cooke 55 Auctioneer, wife Mary 49, daughter Susannah 26 & Son George 29 is the right family, as the 1861 census shows them with grandchildren Florence & Fredk LAKE and the 1881 census has John remarried and grandchildren Florence & Ardley LAKE. Ardley is an unusual name and it is my grandfather's middle name. Shame nothing is coming up with Mary unless the Mary Ann COOKE I found on the birth index born 1843 in Witham is my Mary, maybe someone can see if they can find her and see if her father is a John who is an auctioneer. I know that COOTE is the right surname as that becomes middle names for one of Mary Ann's children and grandchildren but suppose it might be transcribed as Cooke.

Yes I do have a birth certificate but I'm not sure it is the right one. Parents names are John COOTE [that is right as it's on the marriage cert] occupation Appraiser, and mother Mary formerly Holland. John was an auctioneer on Mary Ann's marriage cert in 1868. Someone had looked up the 51 & 61 census and found a John & Mary Coote in Witham, he was an Auctioneer but Mary Ann wasn't with them, and as she would have been somewhere between 7 & 9 I would have thought she would have been there, so I'm hoping she was staying with someone else. If she was it is possible they may have entered down the place of birth wrong so that's why I think any born in Essex. Josie

If you have the birth cert, you will know the names of the parents.........what are they? Do they match those of 'your' Mary? Who did she marry? And when? What was her father's name and occupation? (from the marriage cert) Reg

I am trying to find a Mary Ann COOTE on the 1851 and 1861 census. Someone looked up for me and I think they might have found the family but my Mary Ann was not there on either census. I have a birth certificate showing her born in September 1841 in Witham, Essex but her marriage cert and the 1871/81/91/1901 census and the death index all show her born c1843. Maybe this birth cert isn’t of my Mary but I can find no other Mary’s on the birth index born in the Witham district, although I have found a Cooke born in 1843. So would someone kindly look up all Mary COOTE’s born in Essex who would be born between 1841 & 1843 on the 1851 & 1861 census please, I am hoping she will turn up somewhere. Many thanks Josie
